Happy to finally announce the 2013 RVA Hackathon! Let’s make awesome stuff together!

mobelux:

This year’s RVA Hackathon is a 12 hour event on June 22nd, 2013 for attendees to develop an idea they’ve been meaning to tackle. There are no restrictions on platform or language and there is no theme. At the end of the event we’ll have everyone present what they made and award the best stuff.

Sound like a decent way to spend a Saturday? Sign up now! We can only admit a limited number of people and slots will fill up fast.

Sen. Mark Warner’s Young Professional’s Summit

Honored (surprised/confused) to be selected to attend Senator Warner’s Young Professional Summit this weekend in Richmond, but happy for the chance to meet some other like-minded people (the creative fields were woefully under-represented). Thanks to Drew at Grow Interactive, we made the concepts actionable, which hopefully will result in progress instead of stagnation.

What happened to you, Foodspotting? Went back to an old friend to find some food suggestions in Kennett Square, PA.

The Midnight Suggestion comes alive! Thanks to Big Secret & Jason Emerick. THIS is why we have a workbench at Mobelux. This was laser cut & is powered by Ardruino.

I really hope this app comes with the iPhone 5 at launch, I use it more than anything else on my phone.

You Tube on the dashboard

Seems like weeks that I’ve had problems with YouTube embedding many places lately. Seems related to videos with pre-roll, but they either never start playing (or buffering) or don’t start the video following the pre-roll when embedded in tumblr, facebook, elsewhere….

Additionally Seems like MONTHS that i’ve had problems with most networks (vimeo, youtube, FoD) handling buffering properly: whether I’m at home, work or a coffee shop with a questionable connection, the days of 1 initial buffer and a full play (talking about for a 3-5 minute clip, not a 30, or 1 hr TV show) without a 1 or 2 additional re-buffers seems to be gone and has not returned. Did the race for improved video quality outpace the race for bandwidth/browser/processing speed?

tanya77:

Anyone else having trouble getting the embedded player to play on the dashboard? I have to click through to “see it on You Tube” every time for the past few weeks. (Safari v. 5.1.5) (I KNOW.)

Introducing Instapaper for Android
So very stoked to finally see this released into the wild. Mobelux has been hard at work at this since I joined in, and I’m glad to have helped do my part, even the littlest bit, to help make this happen. Thankfully my fingernails were reasonably clean in this shot. Please check this out, especially on your Kindle Fire or Nook, it’s a great viewing experience. mobelux:

Here at Mobelux we’re pretty big Instapaper fans and have been since the beginning. That’s why we’re very excited to announce Instapaper for Android.

For those of you who don’t already know, Instapaper is a wonderful service that allows you to find great web pages wherever you are, then read them at home or on the go, even without an internet connection on your favorite mobile device.

Late last year Marco asked us if we’d be interested in developing an official Instapaper app for Android. The challenge of bringing the Instapaper platform to millions of Android devices was just the type of thing that gets us up in the morning, so we jumped in head first.

We’ve taken great care to make sure Instapaper for Android is a true first class citizen on Android. This is not a cross-platform framework-in-a-box hack job. We carefully designed and implemented layouts for 7-inch tablets (like the Kindle Fire and NOOK Color), 10-inch tablets (like the Motorola XOOM and Samsung Galaxy Tab) and phones (like the Samsung Galaxy series and Motorola Droid series.) Instapaper for Android supports the very highest fidelity screens and uses the newest Android UI paradigms. Long story short, this was a labor of love and we’re very proud of what we’ve made for you.

But that doesn’t mean we’re finished. Quite the opposite, actually. We’re working hard to add additional features to Instapaper for Android. We believe that we’ve captured the core Instapaper experience but can’t wait to make the app even better. All future updates will be free to existing customers who purchase Instapaper for Android, no matter which store they buy from.

Instapaper for Android is available now on Google Play and should be available soon for NOOK and Amazon Appstore (sign up here to be notified when they’ve been approved.)

So grab a good cup of coffee and start catching up on all those articles you’ve been meaning to read. Now you can do it on just about any device that you want.
