BRINGING THE RICHMOND CREATIVE COMMUNITY TO THE TABLE
Feast RVA
Feast RVA — 2011 - 2016
In 2011, I co-founded a non-profit, Feast RVA as a hypothesis to a common complaint: "the local creative community is too siloed." Richmond has long been home to creative institutions; VCU & the Brandcenter, The Martin Agency & Capital One, not to mention endless musicians, chefs, and small-business owners, all working in the same town but traveling in small circles.
The idea, inspired by elements of communal dinner programs in cultural hubs like Brooklyn and Detroit and tweaked for Richmond, centered around a dinner, catered by one of Richmond's rising restaurants, and 50 diners from across the city. All in attendance, including the chefs, volunteers, and musicians would elect which of three presentations of creative projects were deserving of the profits from the evening.
I served as Executive Director from 2011 - 2015, during which time we held 18 dinners, awarded over $10,000 in cash grants to support local projects, events, and non-profits, and moved hundreds of folding chairs.
